New LFD testing requirement – Care England FAQ document (18 January 2021)
Care England posed a raft of questions to the DHSC around the issues induced as a result of the announcement made on the 23 December that staff will be asked to take rapid tests twice a week, in addition to the weekly PCR test they have already been receiving as part of urgent government action to protect those most at risk. This guidance about polymerise chain reaction (PCR) and lateral flow device (LFD) testing for coronavirus is for all Care Quality Commission (CQC) registered adult care homes. This document provides clinical guidance for the testing of visitors for SARS-CoV-2 (the virus that causes COVID-19) using lateral flow technology on entry to residential care homes. A visitor is defined as any relative or friend wishing to visit a resident or any occasional visiting professional who is not a healthcare professional (e.g., a hairdresser). There has been a clear ministerial steer that for visitors to be allowed into care homes as part of overall approach to promoting wellbeing amongst care homes residents.
