Sleep Walking into the Unknown

Responding to the Government’s latest decision on sleep ins Care England has expressed concern about the continuing uncertainty and called for stronger leadership.

Professor Martin Green OBE, Chief Executive of Care England, says:

“Government needs to accept the responsibility for meeting the substantial costs of back dating sleep in costs and take full account of the reality that the sector has been operating for years within very contradictory guidance”.

The latest announcement from HMRC, BEIS and DH is a hornet’s nest and could result in HMRC pursuing providers who believed that they were acting within the guidance which by its own admission, the Government has said was potentially misleading.

  1. Care England works to ensure that care services are commissioned fairly, efficiently and on a properly funded basis, to meet the true costs of providing quality care.  A Care England survey in July 2017 noted that 45% of providers are projecting to take on less Local Authority placements over the next 3 years due to low rates being paid by councils
