SUMMARY:From training to confident practice: using reflective supervision a
nd competence assessment to improve everyday care
DESCRIPTION:\n\nCare providers invest significant time and money in trainin
g\, but a completed course or high test score does not necessarily show th
at a member of staff can apply learning safely and confidently in practice
. Managers need practical ways to assess competence between mandatory trai
ning cycles\, identify gaps early and support staff without turning superv
ision into another tick-box exercise.\n\nThis webinar will explore how ref
lective supervision\, observation and constructive feedback can be used to
gether to strengthen everyday practice. Lucy Corner and Charlie Light will
share practical approaches that managers can use to move from evidence of
attendance to evidence of competence. The session will consider how to ob
serve practice fairly\, record what has been assessed\, respond when confi
dence and competence do not match\, and agree focused development actions
with staff.\n\nParticipants will leave with practical ideas for:\n• Dist
inguishing training completion from demonstrated competence.\n• Observin
g and evidencing competence between formal training cycles.\n• Using ref
lective supervision to recognise strengths and identify support needs.\n
 • Giving feedback that leads to clear and proportionate development acti
ons.\n• Creating a stronger link between learning\, accountability and t
he quality of care people experience.\n\nThe session is intended for care-
home managers\, nominated individuals\, operational leaders\, quality team
s and providers who want a proportionate and useful approach to competence
  assessment.
