About this year’s NHS flu vaccines
This year, the NHS is recommending the following flu vaccines for eligible adults, which will be used across our Boots stores:
- TIVc (cell-grown trivalent influenza vaccine) – A recommended option for under-65s in clinical risk groups, including frontline health and social care workers. It’s grown in cells rather than eggs, offering improved protection against flu strains that commonly circulate.
- aTIV (adjuvanted trivalent influenza vaccine) – Typically offered to adults aged 65 and over. This vaccine includes an adjuvant, which helps to boost the immune response in older people, who may not respond as strongly to standard flu vaccines.
- TIVe (egg-grown trivalent influenza vaccine) – An alternative to TIVc, also suitable for under-65s in risk groups. It’s produced using the more traditional egg-based method and remains a safe and effective choice.
These vaccines are all approved by the NHS and chosen to provide the best protection for each eligible group. The use of trivalent vaccines this year reflects updated NHS guidance, focusing on coverage of the most common strains expected this flu season.
Learning support available
Our updated Boots Care Learning module – Let’s Learn About Flu – is available now for your teams. The module provides clear, practical information about how flu spreads, who is most at risk, and why vaccination remains a key line of defence each winter.
