Care England, the largest and most diverse representative body for independent adult social care providers in England, welcomes the appointment of Chris Badger as the new Chief Inspector of Adult Social Care and Integrated Care at the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
Chris’s appointment completes the new senior leadership structure at the CQC, and Care England looks forward to working with him and the wider executive team during this critical period of regulatory reform.
Professor Martin Green OBE, Chief Executive of Care England, said:
“I’d like to warmly congratulate Chris Badger on his appointment. His experience and understanding of the social care landscape make him well placed to lead at a time when the role of regulation has never been more important.
We’re looking forward to working closely with Chris and the newly established senior team at the CQC. This is a pivotal opportunity to reshape regulation so that it reflects the complexity of care, values the contribution of providers, and most importantly, improves outcomes for those who draw on care and support.
Regulation must remain a cornerstone of public protection — but it also needs to become an active partner in improvement. A system that works with the sector, not just on it. That supports innovation as well as assurance. And that helps providers rise to the challenge, not pushes them further down.
We stand ready to work together in building a regulatory approach that empowers, enables, and delivers real impact.”
Care England remains committed to engaging constructively with the CQC and partners across the sector to support the development of a regulatory system that is fair, proportionate, and genuinely focused on improving care.
