Sector Pulse Check 2024

Update 14th January 2025: The 2024 Report has now been published, accessible at this link.

Hft, the learning disability charity, and Care England, the largest and most diverse representative body for independent providers of adult social care in England, are continuing their partnership to deliver the annual Sector Pulse Check report.

Now in its 9th year, the Sector Pulse Check provides an annual snapshot of the workforce and financial health of the adult social care sector, helping to monitor trends and provide vital data illustrating the nature and scale of ongoing challenges to Government.

122 organisations submitted responses to last year’s survey, delivering our most reliable and comprehensive findings to date. The resulting report, accessible here, had a profound impact:

  • Media – Over 200 media mentions, including a Channel 4 exclusive and high-profile features in Mail Online, Express, The Independent and an LBC radio interview.
  • Government – The 2023 findings and recommendations were presented to the former Shadow Minister of Social Care, now Parliamentary Under-Secretary (Department of Health and Social Care), Andrew Gwynne MP, and Daisy Cooper MP, Deputy Leader of the Liberal Democrats and Spokesperson for Health and Social Care, at last year’s launch in the Houses of Parliament. They have been foundational in Care England and Hft’s efforts influence policy over recent months and featured regularly in conversations with Government and department officials.
  • Parliament – The Shadow Minister raised the report findings in the House of Commons and Care England further discussed the reports findings with the Minister for Social Care.

This year, Hft and Care England are maintaining the focus on the workforce and financial pressures facing adult social care providers, as well as exploring the sectors thoughts on the new Labour Government’s initiatives. The Sector Pulse Check is our opportunity to present data to the Government on a large scale – amid a challenging economic and political landscape, we need your support more than ever to ensure it has the desired impact on Government and other key stakeholders.

The survey is currently closed. We are currently working on the final report and aim to have the final results ready for publication in January 2025.
