Care England’s latest report highlights a critical but often overlooked issue in the care sector: three in four care home residents are living with hearing loss, a figure projected to rise to 80% by 2032. Untreated hearing loss is not simply an inconvenience of ageing, it can lead to social isolation, low mood, communication breakdown, and even accelerate cognitive decline. For staff and providers, it also increases workload, affects quality ratings, and creates avoidable costs.
The challenge is clear: residents need timely, effective care for ear and hearing health, yet access is limited. Too often, staff must rely on referrals or hospital visits that take residents out of their familiar environment, delay treatment, and place added strain on already stretched services.
This webinar explored how we can respond to Care England’s call to action by making ear and hearing health a routine part of care delivery. Participants:
- Understood the true scale and impact of untreated hearing loss in care homes.
- Learnt how accessible ear and hearing health transformed residents’ quality of life.
- Discovered how new models of care, delivered in-house by care staff using Tympa Health can reduce costs, save time, and improve outcomes.
