Remote monitoring using pulse oximetry in care homes webinar – Q&A attached
held on 9 February 2020. The webinar covered how the NHS is supporting the use of remote monitoring of residents using pulse oximetry, how this works in care homes, and the range of support and learning materials on offer.
Organised by the AHSN Network with NHS England and NHS Improvement, the session also covered how Patient Safety Collaboratives (hosted by AHSNs) are working with care homes and others to implement these COVID Oximetry @home and COVID virtual ward programmes.
The webinar will be of interest to registered managers and care workers in care homes, Primary Care Network clinical leads, and staff supporting remote monitoring.

Financial briefing from Care England
Care England has published a briefing which seeks to outline how the ¬£3.2 billion given to local authorities is not being used to sufficiently support adult social care providers. This includes how local authorities are attaching burdensome conditionalities to those agreements which allow care providers to receive such funding. It is Care England’s view that given the unprecedented nature of the current context, care providers must be enabled to focus upon providing quality care rather than financial constraints. click here to download document.

Care England has produced two documents collaboratively with Anthony Collins Solicitors LLP around competition issues.
The first document outlines the key concepts and rights that competition law gives businesses in response to the recent price increases to Personal Protective Equipment during the COVID-19 outbreak.
The second document comprises a shorter, practical guide to raising complaints in relation to competition issues. As noted in this document, it is not always cost‚Äêeffective for a single victim to bring an action against an infringer if the loss suffered by that one victim is small. Whilst there is no intention to start formal proceedings at this stage, Care England is asking members to complete the table attached in the document and submit your answers to the following address: info@careengland.org.uk Care England will then collate evidence from members to reflect on at a later date to see if there might be an approach Care England can take.
DHSC furloughing staff explainer
The Department for Health and Social Care published some guidance on care providers ability to furlough staff. In particular, it sets out some broad principles on how the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme should be applied in the sector. Care England will, of course, continue to pursue answers in those areas which it doesn’t address. (07.04.2020)
Care England – Empowering Care Homes in Uncertain Times
Through its consistent engagement with its members, we have created a template document which will hopefully empower care providers in their communications with commissioners. It seeks to elucidate the cost pressures which have and are likely to emerge as a result of COVID-19. While we strongly encourage members to add in their examples and figures to elucidate their local realities.
